caring congregation

Brandon's school has a short program twice a month called Caring Congregation where one of the classes leads the program with the morning announcements and then an activity, a song, skit, story, something like that. After that the principal does announcements, recognizes students for achievements, then the students watch a little movie emphasizing a lesson, like respect, kindness, caring, being cheerful, etc.

Well Brandon informed me last night right before bedtime that his class was leading Caring Congregation today. I had no idea because they didn't get a November newsletter or a note sent home about it. Ryan wasn't going to be able to go in late to work this morning so my mind started wondering how I was going to manage the younger boys so that I could go to the program. I assured Brandon while tucking him in that somehow I would be there. After talking to Ryan I decided that I would just go with the boys for Brandon's class presentation and then leave because by then Blaine and Britton would not be content on being quiet. Brandon was ecstatic this morning when I told him that we would be there! He asked why I had to leave early and I told him that his brothers would not want to be quiet for long and he said "well the last time you brought them they were not loud." I replied that the last time we only had Blaine and his dad spent the entire time out in the hallway so that is why he thought Blaine was quiet.

So miraculously I got Blaine and Britton up, fed and bathed and also got myself ready and was at the school by 8:30 this morning in time for the assembly (I must say that is a record for me.) Two of Brandon's classmates presented the Oklahoma and US flag and another told the date and another the lunch menu. Then the class presented their stories that they had drawn and each got a turn to tell their story of "The Little Monster." Brandon's story was about how the little monster loved to read. (big shocker!) Once everyone had read their story they sat down and the principal recognized some students. She had the first grade students who had read 100 books and had propped their feet on her desk stand. There were several who had, she said over double from this time last year! Then she announced that two students had read 250 and had them stand. Brandon was of course one and the other was a girl in his class. Brandon was the only one who had read the announcements because she just turned her list in today. I was so proud of him!!
